Foxlin is the solo project of Ryan Johnson based in KCMO. Diagnosed with incurable cancer and Borderline Personality Disorder, he perseveres through his music & lyrics; connecting with audiences wherever he plays.

Having bone cancer render me disabled at 32 was quite the mindfuck, still is at 37 tbh, but it only lit a fire that doesn’t seem to be extinguishable. I’m so grateful to be alive and for everything I have and am. I strive to be the best I can be; to make a difference in the world whether it’s through kindness or respect or care. What matters most to me in life are strengthening and nurturing the relationships I make and protecting my peace and this show is just one example of how I do that. I freaking love my community ☺️

Speaking of; huuuuge thank you to all who work so hard to put disability pride stuff together, especially the incomparable @graciecaggiano (who is also playing a gorgeous set of her own that day!)

Soooooo, join me on Sunday to celebrate the artists that continue to push forward despite the obstacles they face. Obstacles are just opportunities after all…

Happy Cancerversary to me! 🎂

Today marks 5 years since my initial Multiple Myeloma diagnosis and one year since my last relapse. Cancer continues to change my life plans and I’m constantly forced to find a new normal in a body with chronic bone pain and a weakened immune system, but it’s also changed my perspective significantly and I’m thankful for every day I get to see and every person I get to meet. I hold my people a little closer and cherish all the time I get to spend in the world and I’ve got so much I want to do in life before I die and I can’t wait to celebrate the next 5 years with all of you. Being sick changes things constantly, but I’m working hard on a new album and will be back to playing shows super soon.

Thank you for all your support over the years. It’s kept me going and kept my head up when I needed it most. Some of you send the most beautiful messages and it means THE WORLD to me. See you all super soon!

I’m deeply honored to be Heartland Song Network’s Artist of the Month! I can’t technically be called a survivor because it’ll always come back, but I’ve gotten to partial remission twice now & I can’t help but be so proud of myself. I try to keep it positive here & in public so I’ll spare all the horror stories, but trust that I now have some extra PTSD to work out.

Well, folks. I’ve told some, but it’s finally official. After a month & a half of x-rays, MRI’s, PET scans, and a brutal bone biopsy I’ve been diagnosed with cancer for a second time. That’s what makes this incurable. I’ll keep getting it and getting rid of it for the rest of my life (however long that is) all while dealing with the residual in between. Multiple Myeloma, a bone marrow & blood cancer. The plasma cells in my bone marrow become cancer cells & start replacing the healthy blood cells. It leads to bone & marrow decay, fractures, & bone collapse. Pretty painful stuff. What I find odd is that it’s back after 4 years almost exactly to the day. 11 days apart, to be exact. I’ll be in treatment for the foreseeable future, but I’m planning on doing my best to keep my dates this Summer.

So, if ya wanna hear an active cancer patient’s art, come to a show & let me sing you some songs. It’s such an alienating thing & the support groups are depressing as shit, so come spend some time with me soon, cause I wanna see you. Thank you so much for all of your support so far. It means so much more than I could ever express. I’m trying my best to make this life count.

Foxlin Sings: “you were the loml” by Martha Sin Del @martha.sin.del

A new album release brings another cover where I take a friend’s song & make it my own.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Martha Sin Del for about a year now & was so astounded when I first heard her music. I have since seen her win crowds over within the first second of playing & it makes me so happy to see people have such a genuine connection to art in real time. The realism and cleverness in her songwriting inspires me & aims true to what I try to bring to the table. She’s a true artist & a damn good songwriter. The kind that breaks hearts with only 2 chords. My cup of tea haha. Keep eyes peeled for another collab! She’s part of the Foxlin universe & isn’t going anywhere just yet.

I love so many of her songs, but since the last album was love themed I figured this was the perfect one to cover. In true fashion, the lyrics & melody struck me & I found a way to Foxlin-ify it. 🦊 😆 It’s a piece that documents the period of time after a breakup where you’re convinced they were the love of your life & you’ll never find another. We all know it’s most likely not true, but it’s a pretty normal mindset to be in post breakup.
